City pro show is looking possible

- BY JAMES MASSON

THE possibility of a professional boxing show in Dundee t his year i s looming ever closer.

Perth-born Sam Kynoch, who manages Dundee super-welterweight Paul Kean, has been exploring the possibility of putting on a show in the city and has venues in mind.

“I’m looking at places in Dundee and hoping t o stage a show sooner rather than l ater,” said former Perth Railway amateur boxer Sam, who i s now based in Glasgow.

“Obviously, Paul will be on the bill.

“This could be a very big year for him.

“He is unbeaten in six contests and has had a frustrating time of it due to injuries.

“However, he is working hard in training and looking to kick on this year.”

One of Paul’s targets is a Scottish title contest.

And he is also hoping to steer clear of the injuries which have interrupted his progress.

Paul’s unbeaten record has seen him score points wins over opponents vastly more experienced than himself.

His second challenger, Willie Warburton, had well in excess of 100 contests before Paul recorded a points success over him in Paisley.

Given that Warburton has been in with most of the top British super-welters, it was a really good victory for Paul.

Now he is looking to step up to eight-round contests in what could be a big year.
