Man arrested after ‘multi-car pursuit’
POLICE were allegedly led on a late-night chase through Dundee, with a car reportedly being driven on the wrong side of the road.
Eyewitnesses told of seeing up to six marked police vehicles travelling through Fintry and into Mid Craigie around 11.45pm on Tuesday in pursuit of a vehicle.
Police confirmed today a man had been arrested after allegedly failing to stop.
The man is said to have abandoned the car and was traced a short while afterwards.
He is expected to appear in court in connection with the matter.
Joanne Bonella, 41, who lives in Happyhillock Road, close to the shopping centre, spoke of her shock at seeing so many police vehicles going past her house.
She said: “I saw two police cars going in the direction of Douglas and four towards Linlathen.
“I knew it was something major. It was a bit crazy — I’ve never seen so many police cars.”
Joanne, a motherof-four, has previously called for traffic calming to be installed on Happyhillock Road.
Another resident in the street said the pursuit “was like something out of a film”. The woman, who asked not to be named, said: “I heard the cars before I saw them.
“I looked out of my window and saw blue flashing lights.
“It l ooked like a light-coloured Volkswagen or similar in front, with the police behind — it seemed to be some kind of police chase.
“There were four police vehicles. It was like something out of a film.
“I’ve never seen that many cars at once, all with their sirens going.”
The woman claimed that the car being pursued by police was being driven on the wrong side of the road.
A spokesman for the force said: “Police Scotland can confirm that a yellow Skoda car failed to stop for officers in the Fintry area of Dundee shortly before 11.45pm on Tuesday.
“The car was followed through the Mid Craigie area before being traced abandoned in Drumlanrig Place.
“The driver was traced a short time later and arrested.”
