Morton skipper O’Ware relishes being underdogs

-

THOMAS O’Ware is happy f or Morton to stay under the radar as the Championship enters its second half.

The 24-year-old ’ Ton captain headed a late equaliser in the 1-1 draw against leaders St Mirren in the Renfrewshire derby at Cappielow on Tuesday afternoon.

Most of the fall-out surrounded second-placed Dundee United closing the gap on the Saints to three points with a game in hand.

However, Jim Duffy’s side, who lost to United in the Premiership play-off quarter-final last season, are in fifth place, t wo points off Dunfermline in the last play-off spot.

Defender O’Ware said: “Last year we were the underdogs and nobody really spoke about us. It was Falkirk, Hibs and teams around us.

“That is what we enjoy. We don’t want to be favourites. If folk don’t put us up there with the good teams in the league then fair enough, the pressure is on the other teams.”

O’Ware also noted that Morton are unbeaten in their three games against the league leaders this season.

He said: “(St Mirren boss) Jack Ross has done a great job, put a good squad together so they deserve credit for what they have done.

“But that is three times we have played them and won once and drawn twice.

“We know that on our day we are better than anyone in the league. As the gaffer says, it is about consistency and trying to do it on a regular basis.

“St Mirren have done it which is why they are top.

“But I don’t think they are a better team than us, they are just more consistent so, from now until the end of the season, we go into every game trying to win it and see where it takes us.”
