New £15.5m Waterfront project gets under way
WORK has begun on the latest part of Dundee’s £1 billion Waterfront revamp.
Site six is the first new building project to get under way as part of the city’s regeneration scheme since the V&A Museum of Design and the new railway station.
Once finished, the £15.5 million building will house Grade A office space and a hotel, along with residential, retail and restaurant units.
Completion of the office element of the building is scheduled for March 2019.
A spokesman for developers Robertson Tayside said: “Work started on the project yesterday with an estimated time frame of 60 weeks.
“This should see the offices being completed by March 2019.
“This timeframe is purely for the office portion of the development with the wider plan’s completion dependent on planning permissions.”
Lynne Short (below), convener of Dundee City Council’s city development committee, said: “Work getting under way on the development at site six is a positive sign of progress towards the realisation of the Waterfront as an economic generator for the whole city.
“Employment opportunities, income and an attractive place to live, work and enjoy leisure time are key factors to making the Waterfront a success.
“This development will offer all of these elements and I am pleased that work has started.”
