Last call for music funding

CITY musicians have been urged to put their names forward for a chance to gain up to £500 in funding.

Leisure and Culture Dundee has issued a final call for applicatio­ns to the second round of the Dundee Musicians’ Award 2017/18 before the closing date on Friday January 19.

Grants up to a maximum of £500 are available.

The award supports the work of outstandin­g Dundee-based musicians by awarding grants towards the costs involved in creating new work in any genre, research and profession­al developmen­t.

Fees for a mentor are also covered.

Sinclair Aitken, chairman of Leisure and Culture Dundee, said: “The Dundee Musicians’ Award has supported a wide range of projects since its inception in 2008.

“This year, Dundee Place Partnershi­p has increased funding to support mentoring and this exciting developmen­t will continue to enhance and raise the profile of the excellent and diverse music coming out of Dundee.”

Heavy build-up was reported from motorists coming into the city from Broughty Ferry and going over the Tay Road Bridge

Xplore Dundee said there were long queues on Broughty Ferry Road.

Several commuters reported long delays, with East Dock Street and Arbroath Road among the worst affected areas.

The traffic chaos follows the start of work on the latest part of Dundee’s £1 billion Waterfront revamp.

Road closures are in place while building work gets under way.

Earl Grey Place West is closed for 55 weeks while South Union Street is also to be closed southbound for two weeks to allow set-up works.

Meanwhile, a woman had to be cut free from a vehicle after a “serious” collision with a van today.

Emergency services were called to the scene of t he crash on t he A91 between Cupar and Dairsie at 7.15am.

The woman was rescued by firefighte­rs and handed over to the Scottish Ambulance Service. Her injuries are believed to be serious.

The road was closed immediatel­y after the crash as the woman was cut free. Another patient was also taken to hospital.

A spokeswoma­n for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called to a road traffic crash on the A91 near Cupar at 7.15am.

“Two appliances from Cupar attended and were involved in releasing a woman who was trapped in the van.

“She was handed over to the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

TRAFFIC came to a standstill in Dundee today with motorists reporting heavy congestion in several areas across the city.
