Life on South Georgia
LOCALS are being invited to a free talk by an artist who has spent months living on a remote Antarctic island.
Jamie Grant has written a book after being appointed as artist in residence on South Georgia.
He was appointed by the South Georgia Heritage Trust during the Austral summer of 2015/16.
He i s now coming to Discovery Point on Friday to give a talk on his journey across the Southern Ocean to South Georgia.
He will be showcasing images from his adventure and giving a lively and informative talk about life on the remote isle.
Jamie will be discussing South Georgia’s whaling heritage as well as Ernest Shackleton’s first-ever crossing of the island in 1916.
He will also talk about rescue, wildlife and conservation efforts on South Georgia and the impact of global warming i n t he region.
There will be a chance for attendees to ask questions about Jamie’s visit, while he will also be signing copies of his book afterwards.
The event is also the first opportunity to see a new exhibition of Jamie’s framed prints i n Café Point.
Friday’s talk starts at 6pm and anyone planning to attend i s advised to book in advance.
