Abuser appealing against conviction
Ryan Lawson, 27, was jailed for 13 months in April last year after he was found guilty of three assault charges at Dundee Sheriff Court.
Lawyers will today appeal against his sentence and conviction at the Court of Criminal Appeal in Edinburgh.
Lawson, formerly of Clifden Blue Court in Whitfield, was convicted of attacking his ex-partner Leanne Nicolson at an address in Findale Street on January 25 2015.
He seized her by the throat before pushing her to the floor, to her injury.
Lawson also grabbed Ms Nicolson’s throat two months later in Erskine Street, while he was subject to a bail order.
He was also convicted of assaulting Ann-Marie Melville at a flat in Swallowtail Court between April 1 and April 30 2014.
He pushed and pulled his victim, causing her to strike her head off a wall.
A jury cleared Lawson of biting Ms Nicolson on the face and repeatedly punching her on the head and body.
He was also cleared of seizing Ms Melville by the neck, restricting her breathing by putting his hand over her mouth and throwing a battery at her which allegedly hit her on the head.
A not proven verdict was returned on a charge that Lawson straddled Ms Melville, held an axe above his head, squeezed her head, repeatedly pushed her and pressed his fist into her head.
Lawson was also convicted of several other charges.
He was found guilty of two charges of failing to appear at court on April 1 and November 29 2016 and failing on seven occasions to sign in at police headquarters in West Bell Street as required by his bail conditions.
Lawson was also found guilty of not being at his home address during courtimposed curfew hours on August 20 2016.
His final conviction was for attempting to pervert the course of justice by giving a false home address and incorrect date of birth to PC Sean Petrie and PC Steven Wallace.
Non-harrassment orders preventing him from contacting or communicating with Ms Nicolson and Ms Melville were granted following his prison sentence.
