Charity in appeal for volunteers

-

DUNDEE volunteers are being sought to take part in a trial to help reduce breast cancer.

The Breast Cancer Now charity is calling for volunteers in the city to train as lifestyle coaches for a breast cancer risk reduction trial.

A spokeswoman for the charity said the £1 million scheme, funded by the Scottish Government, is being led by the University of Dundee and supported by the charity.

She said: “The pioneering ActWELL research trial seeks to reduce women’s risk of developing breast cancer by helping them make sustainable lifestyle changes, focusing on physical activity, diet and body weight.

“Women aged over 50 attending their routine breast screening appointments are being invited to take part in the trial, which is being delivered across Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow.”

About 4,600 women in Scotland are diagnosed with breast cancer every year and about 1,000 will lose their life to the disease.
