-

MORE than 1,000 homes were plunged into darkness following a power cut in Dundee.

Properties in the DD4-9 area — covering Fintry, Emmock Woods and Claverhouse — lost power at 8.30pm yesterday.

The disruption saw 1,096 homes and l ocal businesses left without power, while street lighting was also affected, plunging streets i nto darkness.

About half of the areas affected had their power restored with an hour, with most supplies restored by around 10.30pm.

However, a minority of homes were left without electricity f or around another hour.

A spokeswoman for SSE Networks, who maintain Dundee’s electricity supply, said: “We were alerted to a power cut i n t he Dundee area at 8.30pm following an underground cable fault.

“SSEN apologises for any inconvenience caused by the fault and thanks its customers for their patience while our engineers worked to safely restore their supply.”
