Customers left in dark as furniture store closes

CUSTOMERS and staff of a furniture store have been left in the dark after it shut down days before Christmas.

Furniture Mountain, at Kingsway West Retail Park, has been closed since December 21.

The company owns four stores across Scotland, all of which appear to have closed.

A sign on the front door in Dundee said the shop would be reopening following the festive period, but the shutters are still drawn and no sign of any staff could be seen inside the building.

All calls to numbers known for the company remain unanswered and it is understood staff were informed via text message on December 21 that their contracts had been terminated.

The company website remains live, but appears not to have been updated since before Christmas and the organisation’s social media pages have disappeared from Facebook and Twitter.

Customers who have placed orders with the company have been left out of pocket, after paying deposits, or in full, for items that are yet to be delivered. One customer, who had shopped with the family-owned business for a number of years, said he and his wife had lost £1,000 after an order placed at the beginning of December remained unfulfilled.

A spokesman for Dundee City Council’s trading standards team said: “We are currently making inquiries to try to establish what the current trading position is.

“However, in the interim, if anyone has any issues, please contact trading standards on 0345 404 0506.”
