Insurance is choice not to be ignored
YET another story has appeared this week about a family who have launched an online appeal for financial assistance in the aftermath of the tragic death of a relative while abroad
The woman had gone on holiday without taking out insurance, and her death left her family with a bill of several thousand pounds to repatriate her body.
Similar situations frequently arise where people have made a conscious decision not to pay for adequate insurance cover, whether it be for holidays or simply to protect the contents of their home in the event of theft or a fire.
Then when the worst happens, they expect others to come to their assistance and bail them out financially.
There are obviously exceptional cases and there may be personal circumstances where some people are simply unable to afford insurance, which may be an issue for the industry.
But I have always paid my insurance premiums, and can’t help but think that those who do not should have to live with the consequences when things go wrong.
Am I being too harsh?
