Volunteers could help save club

-

F O R FA R ’ S Legion Scotland is gearing up for its annual meeting on Sunday, and volunteers are being sought to help put the body on a solid footing.

A spokesperson said: “There has been speculation about t he Forfar Legion club — not the branch — closing.

“This can only be determined at t he meeting and hopefully this won’t be the case.

“It is up to the members to ensure this does not happen by attending the AGM. Hopefully some will volunteer for the committee to ensure its survival.

“The club i s a vital aspect to both the branch, as it should support the ethos and aims of Legion Scotland, and to the local community which is able to use the legion’s facilities for fundraising events as well as celebrating birthdays, anniversaries etc.”

The Forfar branch was formed in April 1921 and is the oldest known branch in the country.

It stages events including a regular veterans’ breakfast and also has a women’s section.
