Injury rules Lana out of games

- BY JAMES MASSON

THE Scottish international women’s football team face Norway and Russia i n Challenge matches at the end of this month. The games are in La Manga, Spain.

However, Lana Clelland, who hails from Tibbermore just outside Perth isn’t one of them.

Lana, who plays for Tavagnacco in Italy, has withdrawn from the squad due to a niggling ankle injury.

She was the leading scorer in Serie A l ast season and is again leading the scoring charts this season with 11 league goals and nine in the cup.

However, Lisa Evans, the Arsenal forward from Perth, is in the pool.

Of the 23 players in the squad, only eight are based in Scotland.

This reflects an ever growing trend for Scottish girls to pursue their careers in a professional football environments outwith Scotland.
