Mystery over painting found in cellar at Boots
STAFF at a pharmacy in Dundee are appealing for information about a mysterious painting which was found in the property’s cellar.
The artwork, which features a little girl, was found at Boots Pharmacy on Perth Road.
Georgette Anderson, 61, who has worked as a dispenser at the pharmacy for the last four years, said she believes the painting has been in the shop for some time.
The little girl — who staff have nicknamed Stella — is dressed in what appear to be Victorian clothes.
She is carrying a flower in her hand.
Staff at the store have launched an appeal online in a bid to track down more information about the girl in the picture.
Georgette said: “The picture has been here as long as I have — we‘ve named the little girl Stella.
“There doesn’t appear to be any signature on the artwork, so it would be nice to know if anyone recognises the little girl and might know who she is.
“Certainly Stella l ooks very happy. We have no idea if there is any monetary value against the painting, but you never know.
“We are certainly keen to track down anyone who may have information about the painting or know anything about where it might have come from.
“Some of the staff have joked that the cellar where the items have been located is haunted.
“When we found the painting, we certainly never wanted to throw it out.
“I put an image of the painting online in a bid to get information, but, so far, we haven’t received any information as to where it might have come from. It would be nice if we could put a real name to the face of the girl.”
Boots has occupied the premises in the West End for the last 10 years. During a clear-out, shop staff found ledgers dating from the 1920s and 1930s.
The documents are to be donated to the Boots museum in Nottingham.
Georgette added: “As far as I’m aware, this premises has always been a chemist.
“I remember coming in when I was a little girl.
“It was one of the only stores which had pet remedies at that time.”
