Fitness taster sessions launched for youngsters

-

SPORTS-based social enterprise Street League has launched a new schedule of taster sessions for youngsters wanting to develop themselves through fitness.

The charity arrived in Dundee this time last year and targets disadvantaged people in the community aged 16-30.

Highly-trained coaches equip those who join its long-term programme with the skills and connections they need to get into work.

Each course is also paired with sport and fitness programmes to improve the confidence, teamworking skills and overall health of those taking part.

The new taster sessions, held at various locations across the city, will take place each week until March and are designed to let those interested in joining the programme try it out before committing themselves.

Street League representatives will run a football taster session at Douglas Sports Centre every Monday from 2pm-3pm, and another at the Lynch Sports Centre every Thursday from 1pm-2pm.

A fitness-flavoured taster will also be held at Freedom Fitness in Mains Loan, Stobswell, every Wednesday from 1pm-2pm.

Another fitness taster session will also be held at the same venue every Thursday, again from 1pm-2pm.

Since arriving in the city, Street League has supported more than 80 people to find work and boost their potential through self-development.

Among those is Claypotts teenager Conor Nelson, who joined Street League to develop his job prospects.

He told the Tele in November: “I reckon if it wasn’t for a few of the skills I learned, I probably wouldn’t have been able to get the interview and the job.”
