Resident takes action

Signs warning drivers against leaving cars outside property

- BY JAMES SIMPSON

The woman, from Menzieshill, has put up signs in an attempt to stop commuters leaving their cars in front of her house in Mallaig Avenue.

Signs including “no parking at any time” have been attached to hedge bushes and a wheelie bin which sits on private land.

The resident, who declined to be named, said the measures she had decided to put in place at her home are perfectly legal.

She said the signs had been installed because the situation with people parking thoughtlessly had become progressively worse over the last six years.

She said: “There was talk of placing yellow lines in the street early last year, but it was decided the street didn’t merit it. I’m still in full support of putting double yellow lines in the future.”

The resident said many of the problems had been caused by staff at Ninewells Hospital and residents in neighbouring Spey Drive parking in the area.

She added: “At the end of the day some of the people probably don’t want to pay for parking at Ninewells Hospital.

“If you can afford a car like the vehicles which are sometimes left parked here, you can afford parking at the hospital.

“There has also been issues with people who don’t want to pay for residents’ parking permits on Spey Drive.

“To my recollection, we’ve had three accidents that have been a direct result of people parking opposite the junction in the past few months. I’m also concerned emergency vehicles will struggle to get turned in the street if vehicles are parked opposite the junction.”

Motorists parking on the street have also been targeted by a bogus warden who has left fake parking tickets on cars.

A FED-up Dundee resident has taken measures to stop people parking near her home.
