Buddies boss still looking for improvements

-

ST Mirren boss Jack Ross insists his side are taking nothing for granted despite extending their lead at the top of the Scottish Championship to eight points with a 2-0 win at Dumbarton.

Second-half goals from Cammy Smith and Stephen McGinn handed the visitors their sixth win in seven games and moved them closer to reclaiming their place in the Scottish Premiership.

But Ross said he is still looking for improvements to help his side over the line and he confirmed the addition of two new midfielders is set to be sealed before next week’s Scottish Cup trip to Aberdeen.

Ross said: “Unless something dramatic changes I would expect that to be the case. They’re both in the midfield area and I think they will strengthen us in terms of numbers and in terms of different options.

“I don’t think we focus too much on the gap, we focus on being on top and wanting to remain there. We’ve got a huge amount of difficult tasks that lie ahead but every game won is another game towards the end of the season.”

Goals from Craig Halkett and Scott Robinson lifted Livingston into the play-off places with a 2-0 win at rockbottom Brechin.

Halkett took 12 minutes to open the scoring from the penalty spot and Robinson’s simple finish inside the area effectively sealed the victory after 69 minutes.

Inverness extended their unbeaten home run in the Championship with a 3-1 win over Queen of the South.

Iain Vigurs, Joe Chalmers and Aaron Doran scored for the home side before Owen Bell headed a late consolation for the Doonhamers.

Falkirk’s Craig Sibbald scored the only goal of the game to sink Morton at Cappielow.
