Lucky escape for motorist in crash
A DRIVER had a lucky escape after an articulated lorry was involved in a smash with her 4x4 during rush hour on Dundee’s ring road.
The collision, between a silver Honda and a Spanish freight lorry, occurred at around 5pm on Kingsway East yesterday at the Mid Craigie roundabout.
The force of the smash ripped the car’s front wheel from its mountings on the passenger side and lined the length of the car with severe dents.
It also sent the Honda, which had been travelling west along the carriageway, into crash barriers at the roundabout’s edge, which were dislodged from their mountings by the impact.
Debris was strewn across the carriageway and police were quick to establish a small cordon area around the collision.
A woman, believed to be the driver of the 4x4, was treated at the scene for shock, although no severe injuries were reported by ambulance crews.
Traffic was still able to pass while officers spoke to a man, thought to be the driver of the lorry involved, at the scene.
An eyewitness who was travelling behind the car at the time of the accident pulled over to help.
She said she had been able to speak to the driver of the Honda, who couldn’t believe she had been able to walk away unscathed.
The eyewitness said: “She couldn’t really speak.
“She said she couldn’t believe she walked away from it. She didn’t know how it happened.
“The lorry driver didn’t really speak any English.
“A wee boy came over from McDonald’s as well to see if she was OK. He was a nice lad. “God knows how it happened though.” A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Police attended a minor road traffic collision on Kingsway East yesterday about 5pm.
“A lorry and a car collided and a section of road barrier was also damaged. Fortunately no one was injured and the road was not closed.”
The Tele attempted to contact Insausti, the firm that owns the lorry involved, but had not received any response at the time of going to press.
