Boyd pens new deal with Killie

-

KRIS Boyd is determined to repay Steve Clarke f or rejuvenating his career after signing a new Kilmarnock contract.

The former Scotland and Rangers striker extended his deal until the summer of 2019 hours after collecting the Ladbrokes Premiership Player-of-theMonth award for December after scoring six goals in six games.

Clarke won the Manager’s award after four wins and two draws last month took the Ayrshire club into the top half of the table.

Boyd’s new lease of life has been typical of the impact Clarke has made since arriving at Rugby Park in mid-October.

The 34-year-old has now scored 12 goals this season after harbouring thoughts of quitting earlier in the campaign.

“I have got myself back in the team scoring and enjoying myself again,” said Boyd, who praised Clarke and his team-mates, the “terrific” Eamonn Brophy in particular, for helping him win his award.

“Before t he manager came in, I was questioning myself and my head was probably elsewhere.

“When the manager first came in I was ready to call it a day.

“I didn’t feel in a good place but, from what he said to me, I changed my mind.

“It is credit to the manager for helping me to do that.

“Hopefully, I have repaid him since but I want to continue.”
