The Sunshine Box charity is helping to brighten the lives of children in hospital

-

THE Sunshine Box is a very worthwhile charity and one deserving of support.

The charity was set up in 2016 by Fiona Martin, along with her daughter Sara, a paediatric doctor at Ninewells, and youngest son Owen.

They supply toys, books and games to Tayside Children’s Hospital and the children’s unit at Perth Royal Infirmary.

Fiona said: “When we set up the charity, we had no idea how successful it would become.

“We fundraise throughout the year and receive a lot of support from the community.

“We were able to buy iPads for Wards 29 and 30 at Ninewells and we refill the Sunshine Boxes every three weeks.

“We have sensory boxes and the neonatal unit has a sibling box. The labour suite and neonatal unit have received knitted items and we also have seasonal treats for children who are in hospital over a holiday.

“On behalf of my family, I would like to thank everyone for their

support. Without them, the charity wouldn’t be such a success.”

Anyone who would like to support the work of The Sunshine Box should bear in mind that smaller toys are often more practical for children who are in hospital where space is at a premium.

Items such as colouring books and pens, small cars, anything Disney and fairy wings and wands are good choices.

Toiletries for teenagers, books, DVDs and teddies and dolls are also very popular.

New baby clothes are also gratefully received.
