Man ‘took heroin’ before driving off
SHOCKING images have emerged of a man apparently smoking heroin behind the wheel of a car.
Images sent to the Tele show a man attempting to light a substance on what appears to be silver foil.
A series of photographs show the man inhaling smoke while sitting in a car in Dens Road.
The incident is understood to have happened the day before a number of drugs raids were carried out in the area by Police Scotland.
After inhaling the substance, the man was seen to drive off in a silver Volvo.
The eyewitness who took the photographs has reported the incident to the police.
He said: “I was absolutely disgusted by what I was seeing. The man smoked the contents and then entered a neighbouring block in Dens Road.
“I assume he picked up more drugs from the block before returning to the street.”
The man who was pictured entering the close is understood to have left with a woman before she entered a waiting taxi.
The whole incident lasted about 30 minutes.
The eyewitness added: “He emerged within a matter of minutes before he got back into the driver’s side of the car and started smoking again.
“I contacted the police after clocking what the guy was up to.
“I was becoming increasingly concerned that he was about to drive away in the vehicle while under the influence of drugs. It was 100% heroin he was taking — you could see he had a lighter under the tinfoil trying to hit it up.
“After smoking a little bit more he performed a U-turn and headed towards the Five Ways Roundabout.
“I contacted the police again after he started to drive off and told them the general direction he was heading in.
“My concern was, given the time of day, this guy was essentially driving into lunchtime traffic. I immediately started to think the worst — that he could cause a fatality given what he had taken.
“Kids from the local schools could have been out on their lunch — anything could have happened.”
A spokesman for Police Scotland confirmed officers had received a call last week about a driver potentially being under the influence of drugs.
He added: “The area was searched but the vehicle was not found.”
