New bus service aims to beat the travel Blues

- BY SARAH WILLIAMSON

EasyOn is a new door-to-door bus service ferrying passengers across the city from east to west.

For £5 a trip, customers can be picked up from their home and dropped off at the city location of their choice.

The wheelchair-friendly service, operated by Scottish Blue, runs between Broughty Ferry and Ninewells Hospital every day from 9.30am until the early evening.

The company has pitched EasyOn as “a new smarter way to travel”, and George Scullion, director of Scottish Blue, said: “Anybody can use the service.

“People are fed up of waiting at the bus stop for buses that never turn up, now it’s time for change.

“Anyone that’s got mobility needs, Ninewells staff who have trouble parking — anybody.

“The customers want a door-todoor service, they want reliability.”

Mr Scullion said the idea came from a similar project in London and the EasyOn will now be trialled for three months.

The initiative is the first of its kind in Dundee and is set to expand into Angus next month.

Mr Scullion added: “We are hoping that Dundee and Angus councils support it in the future.”

Customers must pre-book by 5pm the day before travel and will then be advised of the bus’s estimated time of arrival.

The bus will also stop at nine pick-up and drop-off points en-route: Sainsburys, Asda Milton, Morrisons, Asda Kirkton, Kings Cross Hospital, Tesco Kingsway, Tesco South Road and Asda Myrekirk.

However, if no one has pre-booked to be collected or dropped off at those locations, Mr Scullion said the bus will take a more direct route to the next destination to save fuel.

The mini-bus company will run from Broughty Ferry to Ninewells every half hour, from 9.30am6.30pm. Buses from Ninewells back into Broughty Ferry will operate from 9.30am with the last bus leaving at 8pm.

Discounts for the service are available for NHS staff or taxi card holders.

Starting from February there will also be a service from Brechin to Ninewells and a second one from Montrose.
