Stars battle secure two

-

DUNDEE Stars took full points from their two games this weekend to keep their play-off ambitions alive.

In their first match, they produced one of their finest performances of the season when they came back from 5-2 down in the final period to beat Fife Flyers 7-6 away after penalty shots.

Last night they continued their great form when they defeated Braehead Clan 4-1 in Dundee Ice Arena. The two wins mean Stars have now recorded six victories from their last seven matches.

Coach Omar Pacha said: “The wins were well deserved.

“For instance, we took the game to Braehead, didn’t give up many chances and outplayed them.

“There are still a lot of games left but this group of players are giving their all and will continue to do so.

“We have Fife in our place next weekend and I want the city to come out and pack the arena.

“With the fans behind us in big numbers, this team can do anything.’

Missing from the Dundee line-up for both games were Chris Lawrence, Johan Andersson, Riley Stadel and Adam Harding.

In Kirkcaldy on Saturday, Fife got off to a flying start when Charlie Mosey put them ahead after just 54 seconds. That was quickly followed by a second goal when Jim Jorgensen netted.

With five minutes left in the opening period, Stars got themselves back into the game. Carlo Finucci took a twominute minor for hooking. On the powerplay, Jimmy Jensen struck to make it 2-1.

Flyers started the second stanza on the offensive.

On 22 minutes, Finucci made it 3-1 to the home side, then Russ Moyer made it 4-1.

Dundee pressed the home defence, outshooting their hosts in the middle session.

Their pressure paid off with just 40 seconds left till the break when Brian Hart scored to bring the score back to 4-2.

With two minutes gone after the break, Fife appeared to have sewn up the points when Liam Heelis scored for 5-2, giving them a three-goal cushion with 17 minutes left.

This triggered a remarkable comeback from the Taysiders.

Just 42 seconds after the Heelis goal, Lukas Lundvald Nielsen made it 5-3.

Stars had their tails up and, on 48 minutes, Jordan Cownie brought it back to 5-4.
