We’re in fashion! Week of events is on trend

THEY are the muchantici­pated shows held in the likes of London, New York and Milan.

And now — for the first time — Dundee is to have a fashion week of its very own.

The events will showcase the very best of what the city has to offer, build on its rich creative heritage and provide independen­t designers with a platform.

Sponsored by the Overgate shopping centre, Dundee Fashion Week 2018 will take place from May 7-13 in venues around the city, with a special finale catwalk to be held at the Caird Hall on Sunday May 13.

Throughout the week, events will be held in iconic locations around the city, including the Overgate shopping centre, McManus Galleries, HM Frigate Unicorn and the Steeple Church.

Students from Dundee and Angus College will be heavily involved in the behind-the-scenes running of the show and will provide their own designs and work for the final show.

Alexandra Harnett is sponsorshi­p officer at the college and the founder of the brand new event.

She said: “The team behind the event is really keen to create a learning legacy for Dundee while promoting the creative industries from around the city.

“We are primarily focusing on independen­t designers and boutiques to showcase the talent we have in the city.

“If we are fortunate enough to have a year two or a year three, we may then open it up to designers from further afield. The idea came about after learning that each year fashion students at Dundee and Angus college would hold a fashion show in the campus canteen.
