Man in threat to rape cops’ mums

A MAN who threatened to kill police officers and rape their mothers and daughters has been jailed for 15 months.

Neil Brown, 30, of Glenprosen Drive, was stopped by officers on August 3 last year on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Fiscal depute Joanne Smith told Dundee Sheriff Court police traced Brown at 10.30pm that night and found him to be smelling strongly of alcohol and in possession of a key for a van.

When asked to provide a specimen of breath he became aggressive, she said.

He told officers: “I’ll rape your mother, I’ll kill you” and added “f*** you!”

Brown then said: “I’ll rape your daughter. As soon as I get out of here you’re dead — I know where you live.”

Ms Smith said that at the charge bar, Brown refused to provide two specimens of breath and was placed in a cell.

Brown had previously admitted that, at Claverhouse Road and at police HQ on August 3, he behaved in a threatening and abusive manner likely to cause fear or alarm, shouted, swore, threatened police officers’ families with violence and sexual violence, and failed to provide two specimens of breath when required to do so.

Solicitor Ian Houston told the court Brown was under the mistaken belief that as he was not driving he did not have to provide a specimen of breath.

“He appreciates he was wrong now but when he was told he was under arrest he behaved in this way,” Mr Houston said.

“He accepts unacceptable.”

Four months later, on December 16, police were in a marked vehicle and saw Brown driving. They recognised him as a disqualified driver and stopped him.

Mr Houston told the court that Brown took the chance of driving as he was selfemployed and wanted to work.

Brown also admitted that on December 16, at Alloway Terrace, Pitkerro Road and Clepington Road, he drove while disqualified and without insurance.

Sheriff Tom Hughes told Brown: “A clear message has to go out that behaviour like this towards police officers who are doing their duty is totally and utterly unacceptable.

“Only a custodial sentence is appropriate here.”
