Railway club moving forward

PERTH Railway Amateur Boxing Club are to put on a show for the first time in around 20 years.

The club used to put on shows in the Fair City on a regular basis with the Salutation Hotel and the Tulloch Institute the main venues.

However, the staging of shows has fallen by t he wayside i n recent years, although that is set to change.

The club’s Stuart Campbell said: “We have booked a show for May 6 at the Civil Service Club.

“It has been a long time in the planning but we are delighted to have taken this step and are looking forward to what we hope will be a good day.”

The club are also looking forward to this weekend’s Scottish Intermedia­te Championsh­ips at Ravenscrai­g.

Luke Bibby, a Scottish novice, intermedia­te and open champion, is aiming for another intermedia­te title, going in at 64kgs.

Clubmate Liam Roy is competing i n the 69kgs. category.

The club have recently taken in a fresh intake of boxers and are hoping they will follow in the footsteps of Luke, Liam and Taylor Neill who is also making a name for himself.

The 16-year-old has won five of his six contests and is a Scottish and Northern District novice champion at 48kgs.

Stuart added: “We are happy at the way the club is going. Putting on a show for the first time in a long time, we are looking upwards.”
