Murty relishing prospect of Docherty at Ibrox

-

RANGERS boss Graeme Murty is relishing the prospect of working with a highly-motivated Greg Docherty.

The Gers moved up to second spot in the Ladbrokes Premiership with a 2-0 win over Aberdeen and the good news continues to pour in for the Light Blues faithful, with Docherty poised to seal his £675,000 move from Hamilton.

Having handed debuts to January recruits Sean Goss, Jamie Murphy, Russell Martin and Jason Cummings against the Dons, Murty is hoping to keep the positive vibes flowing with the 21-year-old midfielder’s arrival.

Murty said: “It’s another bit of business for another young hungry player desperate to enhance our group.

“When you see the players gelling and the improvements we’ve made, it’s an exciting time for players — and for me as a manager. I want to manage people who are hungry to improve.

“You saw glimpses of the team we’re hoping to be,” he added. “Movement and passing was crisp, the new players gave us a lift.

“We have to improve. As good as it was, we will get better.

“The players we have in the building are pushing us to be better.

“That’s really exciting for me and should be exciting for Rangers fans.”

Derek McInnes was making his first appearance at Ibrox since knocking back the Gers job last month. But he admitted his side failed to show up.

“I thought Rangers asked more questions of us,” said the Dons boss, who fears keeper Joe Lewis may have suffered a serious injury after being rushed to hospital following his collision with Josh Windass in the penalty incident which led to Rangers’ second goal.

“We’re guilty of not doing more in the game, not converting those four or five real clear-cut chances.”
