West blown away after DUSC’s blistering start

DUNDEE United SC U/13 beat Dundee West Royals 4-0 to continue their fine run of form in the J Clenaghan League.

The table-toppers raced into a 3-0 lead and completed the scoring late on, and manager Steve Maloney was delighted with his side’s performance.

He said: “On our day, we play some excellent attacking football and punish teams quickly, this only happens if all players know their role and play as a team.”

DUSC lost 5-1 against Dundee West at the start of December but they got off to the perfect start when Logan Farquharson slotted the ball home from close range with only two minutes on the clock.

Farquharson turned provider four minutes later when he whipped in a cross that Freddie Holmes headed into the net.

This was the first of a quickfire double for Holmes, who forced the ball over the line from a corner after nine minutes.

It was a blistering start from a DUSC side that have already exceeded their manager’s expectations this season.

Maloney continued: “Our aim was to use the year to prepare for next season and start to challenge more then. Obviously, things have changed, and we are in a position to challenge this year. Despite losing three key players early in the season, the team have bonded well.”

Dundee West saw more of the ball in the second half but couldn’t breach the resilient DUSC defence and, with eight minutes to go, Farquharson completed t he scoring with a cool finish from a tight angle.

Despite putting on a ruthless display in front of goal, Maloney was delighted to see his side keep a clean sheet.

“For me, Man of the Match was Daniel McInroy, who won every tackle in defence and produced a flawless performance. This is great for Daniel as he has not been a regular starter recently.”

With a sizeable lead at the league’s summit, and a cup final to look forward to, Maloney is hopeful his side can get over the line.

He added: “The league we are in is very tight and we feel anyone can beat anyone.

“We have three home games and two tricky away games left to play and want to make sure our 3G pitch is used to our advantage.”
