Stars aiming outfit flying

-

FOLLOWING their wins over Fife Flyers and Braehead Clan last weekend, Dundee Stars look to make it eight wins from nine games when they continue their play-off push tomorrow (7pm).

Fife Flyers are the visitors to Dundee Ice Arena.

They must still be reeling from the 7-6 l oss against the Taysiders in Kirkcaldy last Saturday.

They were 5-2 ahead with only 17 minutes left in the fixture.

On Sunday, Stars make the trip across the Forth to Murrayfield where they take on Edinburgh Capitals (6pm).

The two victories took Dundee to 10th in the league, just two places below the final play-off spot held by Braehead.

Stars sit on 31 points, three below Clan.

Should they win their two games in hand, they would leapfrog the west coast side into eighth.

However, there is still a lot of ice hockey to be played and it’s important Stars keep their winning streak going and not to rely on other teams slipping up.

Recent signing, Lukas Lundvald Neilsen said: “We got four really big points last weekend and it feels good to have those wins.

“The belief is there that we can make it into the play-offs.

“I’ve only recently arrived and, since here, we’ve done well. We can definitely make it.

“There are so many points to play for, so many games.

“We’re just taking it one game at a time.

“If we deliver 100% every night then we’ll be there.

“We hope to deliver more for the fans in the games coming up but it’s all about getting the wins and climbing up the standings.’

Neilsen has been a revelation since his arrival and his performances have not gone unnoticed.

The Elite league have announced he is their Player of the Week, the second Stars’ players to win that accolade in the past two weeks with Gabriel Levesque also earning the award.

Coach Omar Pacha said: “Lukas has been a very good asset since he came here to join the team. He skates very well and plays with an edge.

“It’s no coincidence our results have improved since he and Cody Carlson arrived.

“He’s contributed a lot since coming
