Docherty pens deal with Gers

-

GREG Docherty has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with Rangers after completing his £675,000 switch from Hamilton.

The boyhood Gers supporter, 21, arrived at the c l u b ’s Au c h e n h o w i e training base yesterday morning for a medical.

The midfielder has now put pen to paper on a deal which will tie him to Ibrox until the summer of 2022.

Rangers finally struck an agreement with Accies chairman Ronnie MacDonald on Wednesday after two weeks of talks.

Agreeing personal terms proved to be a mere formality for Docherty, who becomes Gers’ fifth January signing following the recruitment of l oanees Sean Goss, Jamie Murphy, Jason Cummings and Russell Martin.

Rangers boss Graeme Murty said: “It’s another bit of business for another young, hungr y player desperate to enhance our group.

“When you see the players gelling and the improvements we’ve made, it’s an exciting time for players — and for me as a manager.

“I want to manage people who are hungry to improve.”

Docherty, a Scotland U/21 international, was left out of Martin Canning’s squad for H a m i l t o n ’s L a d b ro k e s Premiership clash with Hearts on Wednesday night as Rangers edged towards a deal.

He scored eight goals for Hamilton, i ncluding l ast season’s crucial play-off winner against Dundee United which rescued the club from relegation.
