Young Stars march into semi-finals

-

DUNDEE Stars U/14s progressed into the Scottish Cup semi-finals following 15-2 win at Murrayfield.

Defenceman Jamie Edmonds was the first to hit the back of the net in the opening minute of the game and the shots came thick and fast from the Stars throughout.

Adding to the spoils were hat-tricks from Alex Gorrie, Gary Kelly and Rio Page, a brace from Ben Brown, and single strikes from Austin Osborn, Charlie Ward and Sonny Simpson.

The Edinburgh side managed to get just two goals past Stars’ netminder Liam Griffin in the middle and final periods.

Man of the Match was awarded to Rio Page.

“This was a relatively easy game against a very young Murrayfield team,” said a Stars spokesperson.

“However, the team will really need to pull out all the stops when we meet Belfast in our semi-final.

“They are the ones to beat this season and our league and cup hopes are dependent on a victory against them.”

Elsewhere, Stars U/20 went down 8-5 in Kilmarnock.

Despite pulling it back to 4-3 after 38 minutes of play, the travelling Taysiders let slip two goals to fall 6-3 behind before both sides found the net again with two late counters.

Scorers for Stars were Drew Rumgay, Charlie Scott, Ross Hamilton, Jack Terroni and Brad Petrie.
