Students strike back for fine win
IN the Doc Ferry’s Premier Division, Riverside CSC looked like they would hold onto their 1-0 lead against the Medics and put pressure on Hilltown at the top of the table.
However, a late rally by the medical students saw them score twice in the dying minutes to cap off a solid performance.
They may well l ook back on the result as the one to ensure they play Premier Division football next season as they have eight first-team regulars in placement in Africa for the next two months, so will be left short-handed.
A 2-2 draw for Fintry Athletic against Hawkhill puts them in joint second spot with Riverside CSC and FC Kettledrum. They all trail Hilltown by six points, though Riverside and Kettledrum have a game in hand.
In the Balgay Bar First Division Cup, a 4-1 win by St James over Cairdy Thistle made it five group wins on the spin.
They top Group B and have earned a play-off spot against The Beat.
Ferry Mechanics’ 6-0 win over Cannon Fodder means they can book the other spot against Club 83 if they beat Stobswell this weekend.
A win for Stobswell will mean they go through also, with the Mechanics’ final game being left meaningless in the group.
In the Balgay Bar First Division, DK Raiders netted a last-minute goal to secure t hree vital points against Monifieth Hurricanes.
Raiders won despite being reduced to 10 men with only 30 minutes gone.
Their win opened up a seven-point gap between them and bottom team The Beat in the battle to avoid relegation.
Stobswell went i nto fourth with their 4-1 win over Club 83, who had Shaun Williamson on the scoresheet.
In the Trident Trophies Second Division Cup, only Bank Street Athletic are in the last four.
Sidlaw Albion’s 4-3 win over Fife Thistle B means they need a point in their final group game against Stobswell Athletic.
A win by more than three goals, though, will see Stobswell through.
Group B’s two slots will see at least one place decided this weekend if FC Boukir get a draw against Clark’s.
A 3-2 win over Cleppy Social, courtesy of Chris Reid’s penalty and one apiece from Eddie Grant and Allan Jarrett, puts Boukir in command of Group B.
Occidental’s 3-3 draw against Dundee City means they are out with a game to play.
It could mean Charlie’s Accies go through if they beat Occidental this weekend.
A draw for Cleppy Social against Dundee City would be a nightmare for both teams as they chase Accies for that semi-final spot. YESTERDAY
