Joy and despair for Fed manager

- BY JUNICUS

NEW Broughty Athletic player/ manager Jamie McCunnie had mixed emotions after making his home debut in charge against Bo’ness.

He was delighted with the performance and the 4-1 victory but was disappointed he had to sit out the last half-hour after being sent off after a second yellow card.

The Fed took control from the start and their effort paid off in 20 minutes when Kevin Milne volleyed in the opener.

They doubled their lead in 53 minutes with an excellent build-up finished off by Derryn Kesson.

However, three minutes later, McCunnie received his marching orders.

Bo’ness gave themselves a fighting chance when Allan McKenzie pulled one back but, despite being down to 10 men, the Fed restored their two-goal advantage through a Jamie Winter penalty.

Brian Clark put the icing on the cake with a fourth three minutes from time.

Carnoustie went down 3-0 at home to Linlithgow but felt it was much closer than the score suggests. The Gowfers were also less than happy with some of the decisions that went against them, particularly the two red cards they picked up.

It was fairly tight in the first half but Rose broke the deadlock in 34 minutes through Gary Thorn.

The visitors then doubled their lead in 58 minutes through Colin Strickland and, shortly after, Carnoustie’s Paddy Conway was sent off.

Tommy Coyne made it three for the visitors from a penalty two minutes from time and, in the final minute, the hosts were down to nine men when Ewan Buggins received his marching orders.

Although the full length of the table separates Forfar West End from their hosts and league leaders Bonnyrigg, Daryl McKenzie’s men might have enjoyed better fortune than a 2-0 defeat had they not missed a penalty.

Trailing to a Kyle Wilson header before the break, West End had a great chance to level on 57 minutes but Michael Andrews saved Gary Robertson’s spot-kick.

Lewis Turner headed the home side’s second 15 minutes from the end.
