Blackwood to the four as Spiders go nap

-

IN the Premier League, Downfield picked up three precious points with their best performance of the season at Dalkeith.

A whirlwind start saw the Spiders hit their hosts’ net three times in the first half hour and they added a fourth five minutes from the break.

They again controlled the second half and scored one more to make the final result 5-0.

Man of the Match for the Spiders was Paul Blackwood, who scored four, while Ewan Cameron got their other.

Tayport were left frustrated after dropping two vital points in a 1-1 draw with Arniston.

The Fifers had the better of the early exchanges but were stunned in 19 minutes when Andy Watson drilled in the opener for the visitors.

’Port pressure finally paid off on the hour mark when Connor Ireland stooped to head home from a Connor Gray cross.

St Andrews United were well worth their 2-1 win against Kirrie Thistle at Barnetts Park.

Saints played well for long spells and the Kirrie keeper was outstanding but he was beaten by two goals in the last 10 minutes. With eight minutes left, Derek Wallace got the opener and Scott Lawrie netted a late penalty with Thistle’s counter from Alan Cruickshank coming right at the death.

RESULT of the week — Never mind result of the week, DOWNFIELD’S 5-0 win at Dalkeith was the Spiders’ result of the season so far.
