Saints team boss laments more individual errors

-

IT was “the same old story” for Tommy Wright after St Johnstone crashed out of the Scottish Cup by a 3-0 scoreline away to Hearts.

The Perth side’s manager lamented the “individual errors” which have again cost his side dearly.

Tommy said: “We started well, we got into good positions but then give away a horrendous early goal.

“At a throw-in, Joe Shaughnessy inexplicably throws the ball inside instead of down the line. Hearts get onto the ball and score from that move.

“It’s the worst goal we’ve given away all year. I don’t know what Joe’s thought process was.

“It is not an area where the ball should be thrown into but that’s what happened and we are one down.

“Scott Tanser then misses a good chance and we then give away a second preventable goal.

“It’s 2-0 Hearts and yet there is nothing between the teams.

“Throughout the game, we are not under periods of pressure and Alan Mannus in our goal has hardly had a thing to do.

“We must stop making individual mistakes. They really are costing us.”

Saints’ next engagement is away to Celtic on Sunday in the Ladbrokes Premiership.

Welsh international winger George Williams, on loan from Fulham, could be involved in that game as could Brian Easton who is back in training following a spell out injured with his hernia injury requiring surgery. Williams has just recovered from an ankle knock.

Liam Craig, Stefan Scougall and Callum Hendry are still out injured.

Meanwhile, Saints U/20s next game is away to St Mirren tomorrow (6pm).
