Doc’s sneaking up on Hilltown

-

IN the Dundee Saturday Morning League Doc Ferry’s Premier Division, Doc’s Hibernia took advantage of Hilltown being in cup action.

Their 3-1 win against DC Athletic puts them into second spot, four points behind Hilltown but, crucially, with two games in hand.

Fintry Athletic went third and trail top spot by six points though having played the same number of games as the league leaders.

Their 5-3 win over Riverside CSC all but kills off any outside chance Riverside may have had of getting back i nto contention.

It’s looking like a three horse race for the title in the Premier.

FC Kettledrum were expected to push for the championship but an inability to see out games cost them dear again.

They came back from two down against the Medics, via two penalties, and were leading 4-3 until a last-minute equaliser ensured they split the points with the students.

Having played 10 games this season, Kettledrum have drawn five and lost one and that form will not carry them into contention.

Dryburgh’s 2-1 loss to Park Tool keeps them in the second relegation slot alongside DC Athletic.

It looks very much like two from three to go down with a gap opening between this pair, DUSC and the rest of the Premier table.

Park Tool and DC Athletic contest the second Ross Kirk Memorial Trophy semi-final at the University on Saturday.

In the Balgay Bar First Division, St James Athletic went top and maintained their 100% win record in the league.

Their 4-2 win over Stobswell pulls them two points clear of Cairdy Thistle with a game in hand.

They also now have a semi-final to look forward to this weekend in the cup when they take on The Beat who have improved but will have it all to do this weekend. This follows a disappointing showing against Club 83 on Saturday.

Mark Morris and Ryan White were on target for Clubbie in a 2-1 win.

Ferry Mechanics are in the third automatic promotion spot following an 8-0 demolition of DK Raiders.

They are already assured a cup semi-final against Club 83 but have one last group game this weekend against Monifieth Hurricanes to play.

This will give them a chance to look at some squad players and be a chance for them to clear some player suspensions.

In the Trident Trophies Second Division Cup, FC Boukir guaranteed themselves top spot in Group B and avoid Bank Street in the semi-finals after a 5-1 win over Clark’s.

They still have a game to play this weekend against Charlies Accies who progress in second spot and will face the Bankies in the knockout stages.

Accies eased past Occidental 4-1 to ensure the chasing pack can’t catch them.

Both can use this match to clear suspensions and ensure they have full squads for the semis.

Dundee City’s 3-2 win over Cleppy Social meant both go out of the cup.

Cleppy had a chance to progress if they had won and would have taken it into their game against Occidental which is now played for pride only.

In Trident Trophies Division Two league action, Bank Street Athletic stretched their advantage at the top to five points with a merciless display against Boars Rock, who succumbed 10-1.

Kelso’s 3-1 win over Fife Thistle B saw them climb three places.
