Recovery goes on for Wighton

CRAIG Wighton continued his comeback from a cruciate knee ligament injury l ast night as he helped Dundee’s U/20s to a 1-0 win over Kilmarnock.

Wighton has been out since suffering the injury on the eve of the season but returned for the Development side last week, playing 30 minutes in the Wee Derby win over rivals Dundee United.

He stepped up his recovery last night, playing 45 minutes in an experienced Dark Blues line-up.

Fellow first-teamers Kevin Holt, Lewis Spence and Kerr Waddell also started.

Another who has made appearances for the first team and impressed off the bench at Partick Thistle on Saturday is Jesse Curran.

And it was the Australian who grabbed the goal that mattered, to give the young Dees three points and move them up to second in the Development League.

Kevin Holt had a header and then a free-kick saved by Killie keeper Curtis Lyle in t he first half before Curran broke the deadlock after 52 minutes.

The 21-year-old ran down the right and toe-poked into the f ar corner from 20 yards.

Dundee striker Cedwyn Scott had the ball in the net late on but was ruled offside before Killie almost snatched a draw right at the death.

Next up for the Development side is a trip to face St Mirren on Tuesday, March 6, with a 7.45pm kick-off as they chase league leaders Hibs.
