Fostering and adoption services seek new carers

-

DUNDEE City Council is urging new carers to come forward following glowing inspection reports on the local authority’s adoption and fostering services.

Inspectors said that adopters reported feeling well-supported through the process and that staff were “highly motivated”.

Dundee’s fostering service also recorded an improved performance in care and support.

Foster carers told inspectors they felt “valued and proud” following a civic reception given in their honour.

One young person told the fostering service inspectors that “foster care in Dundee is good and has made my life better”.

The youngster added: “They treat you well. I like it a lot. They make me feel safe and happy. I can talk to my foster carer when I need help. Without foster care I don’t know what would happen.”

Meanwhile, the inspectors also heard from adopters.

One said: “I have been very well supported through the (adoption) process and well prepared for what we have faced.

“Both the child’s social worker and our worker (in the adoption service) have been a good source of support and guidance.”

Children and families service convener Councillor Gregor Murray said: “These are impressive and inspiring reports which reflect the hard work that is put in by our staff.

“We are always appealing for people to come forward to become foster carers or adoptive parents.”
