Van ‘is an eyesore’
Transit van driver refuses to budge in council row
A DRIVER is refusing to move his illegally parked vehicle despite racking up hundreds of pounds in fines.
Thomas Foster, 33, said he has been at loggerheads with Dundee City Council over obtaining a temporary parking permit for his white Ford Transit.
The van is currently positioned on a grassy area in front of his home in Thurso Crescent.
He said he purchased the vehicle four weeks ago and has already received six parking tickets.
A handwritten note has been left on the dashboard advising fellow residents of the ongoing situation.
Mr Foster said he is waiting on his new V5 documents being processed before he can obtain a valid permit.
He has attempted to apply for a temporary permit while he waits for the documents to be updated by the DVLA.
The note states: “This van will not be moved off the grass until a permit has been issued.”
Thomas said he understands the frustration of residents who have labelled it an “eyesore”.
He said: “No one has come to me directly to complain as of yet.
“I’ve been at loggerheads trying to get a solution to the ongoing parking situation.
“I’ve already racked up more than £200 worth of fines that I won’t be paying — the van won’t be moving anytime soon.
“There are two-hour bays and permit-holder spaces only, so I’m limited where I can go.
“I’ve been advised to get a lock-up that is three miles away but you can’t even get a van in it.
“I can understand why people would be annoyed that it is parked on the grass. I’m waiting on new V5 documents being issued before I can obtain a permit.”
A resident who declined to be named said: “It is an eyesore. I didn’t buy my house to look out at that.”
A Dundee City Council spokeswoman said: “We are looking into this.”
