Almost Blue’s back!

Music festival which attracts thousands to return in June

- BY ALAN WILSON

The popular three-day event will play host to more than 100 gigs across 20 venues in the city centre and Broughty Ferry over the weekend of June 29, 30 and July 1.

It’s the seventh time the festival has been held since launching in 2012 and it’s hoped this year will feature a record number of venues.

It’s hoped that the extravaganza will bring even more people out, with 20 pubs and venues already signed up and huge interest from musicians and bands desperate to play this year.

And once more, some of Dundee’s best young emerging talent will be involved through the Gardyne Youth Music Initiative live show being planned for the Saturday at a special surprise venue.

A spokesman said: “We are delighted to announce the launch of Almost Blue 2018. It’s always an exciting time and it’s also great to reveal that already about 20 venues have signed up for the festival.

“We’re hoping this will be a record year yet again.

“Once more it’s particularly pleasing to involve the young bands as they are the future of music in the city.

“We’re very proud to be part of that and I’m sure it will be a great attraction for families. We’re planning to hold their showcase gig on a really special stage which we think will be a great attraction for Dundee people.

“We’re looking forward immensely to the weekend which we’re sure will bring a great buzz to the city centre and Broughty Ferry.

“We would welcome any other venues in the city centre or Broughty Ferry to join up as soon as possible and make it an even bigger and better event in 2018.”

Venues and bands interested in taking part can contact organisers through Facebook.
