After cup heroics focus is on league

- BY JUNICUS

AFTER their heroic wins in the Scottish Cup last week, it’s back to league business for Lochee United and Carnoustie.

The Gowfers travel to face Camelon while Lochee United enjoy home advantage against Sauchie.

When United and Sauchie met earlier in the season, a Connor Birse hat-trick and another from Bryan Deasley gave them a 4-0 win.

Manager George Shields was delighted with their battling performance at Irvine last week and it would be no surprise if he names the same starting team.

Missing through injury are Deasley, Paddy Deane and Kevin Buchan.

Carnoustie manager Alan McSkimming was also full of praise for the Gowfers show against Arthurlie but his attention now turns to league points.

They have lost only once in the last nine league meetings against Camelon and, with confidence on a high after last week’s result, it would be no surprise if they add another win to the sequence.

McSkimming lists the same squad but will be without Jake Mair. Luke McGeehan is available again.

Broughty Athletic hope to get back in action again after last week’s match at Camelon was postponed.

Interim manager Jamie McCunnie did manage to arrange game time with a midweek friendly against Kirrie Thistle and saw his latest signing Jordan Garden score twice in the Fed’s 3-1 win.

Garden will be a strong candidate to start away to Hill of Beath.

Forfar West End welcome Newtongrange looking for a win to lift them off the bottom.

Their visitors may sit 10th and nine points better off but West End have three games in hand.

Manager Daryl McKenzie has the same squad available that trounced Deveronside.

Jeanfield Swifts are at home to Kennoway Star Hearts.

The Fifers are a place below Swifts in second bottom, four points worse off, having played three more games, so three points would be invaluable for Ross Gunnion’s men who have Lee Deans back.
