‘Absolutely terrifying’

City grandad calls for urgent action amid ongoing issues

- BY LINDSEY HAMILTON

Brian Miller, 62, said he is terrified to leave his Menzieshill home in case he comes back to find his door smashed in.

In December, Mr Miller told the Tele that thugs had threatened to torch his flat, smash his car, regularly banged on his windows and had written the word “grass” at his front door.

He said at the time he was terrified to go to sleep in case petrol is poured through the letter box of his home.

Mr Miller, who is currently off work with health problems, said: “This has been going on for more than a year now and it’s making my life hell.

“Despite the fact that CCTV and two security doors have been installed, it’s worse than ever.

“Last week, the doors were smashed in again and there were people running in and out of the block with hatchets and big knives. There was shouting and screaming right outside my door — it’s terrifying.

“I shouldn’t have to live like this. There must be something that can be done to stop these people behaving like this and making my life an absolute misery.

“I’m at the stage I’m terrified to leave my house. I stay inside with the door locked and just keep my head down.

“What is the point of CCTV if it isn’t stopping this happening? I’m living in fear and scared to say anything in case I’m targeted. One of the culprits told me I should sell up and move away — he might be right.”

Mr Miller said that “disgusting, filthy” rubbish was also regularly left lying on the stairwells.

The flats in the block are a mix of council and privately owned properties.

He said: “There are some people living in the block who just dump all kinds of rubbish in the communal areas and on the stairwells.

“It’s j ust absolutely filthy and disgusting.

“I’ve been asking for help but it’s not like I can move, because I own my flat.

“There must be something that can be done to stop all of this happening.

“It’s making me ill having to live with all this going on around me,

“I’m getting very depressed and I’m desperate for someone to help.”

A spokesman for Police Scotland previously confirmed that officers were aware of ongoing issues regarding antisocial behaviour in Strathcarron Place.

Dundee City Council had not responded to a request for comment at the time of going to press.

A GRANDAD has said he is still living in fear at the hands of yobs — despite CCTV being installed at his block of flats.
