Bingo hall pervert assaulted woman
A BINGO hall sex attacker has been found guilty of targeting another woman at a homeless shelter.
In May 2015, David Dunn, 49, of the Lily Walker Centre in Ann Street, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a 58-year-old woman. He grabbed her as she sat alone on a couch at the Mecca Bingo hall in the Nethergate and told her she had “beautiful eyes”.
Immediately after, Dunn went outside and targeted another woman, grabbing the 24-year-old’s bottom.
Now, Dunn has been found guilty of another sexual offence after trial at Dundee Sheriff Court.
He was convicted of sexually assaulting and attempting to touch a woman and attempting to lift her up at Dundee Survival Group, Foundry Lane, on January 8.
Solicitor Kevin Hampton said that Dunn’s position remained that he was innocent.
Passing sentence, Sheriff Derek Reekie said he had noted Dunn’s claims in a report that the woman’s actions had been “financially motivated” but said: “I made my decision about that at the trial.
“CCTV showed that there was nothing to suggest that the woman wasn’t bothered about what happened and continued to sit beside you.
“There’s nothing to suggest that she engaged with you.”
The sheriff said that since Dunn had shown a willingness to cooperate with workers on a supervised programme as part of the Tay Project, he would place him on a community payback order for three years.
He also ordered him to be under supervision for three years and to take part in the Moving Forwards, Making Changes programme as part of the Tay Project.
Sheriff Reekie said: “This is all to address the issues that underlie your offending behaviour.
“In addition, as regards the punishment part of the sentence, you will perform 150 hours of unpaid work, to be completed within nine months.
“This is a direct alternative to custody. You have a previous conviction for a similar offence and a significant record of previous convictions.”
The sheriff also imposed a conduct requirement banning Dunn from approaching or contacting the woman and placed him on the sex offenders register for three years.
He also fixed a review of the order for June 27.
