Connor’s super show in Africa

-

KIRKCALDY’S Connor Syme did well in the Tshwane Open in Pretoria, South Africa.

He recorded rounds of 70, 68, 68 and 69 for a 275 nine-under-par total.

Blairgowrie’s Bradly Neil didn’t do so well. His first two rounds of 72 and 73 meant he didn’t make the cut.

The event was won by George Coetzee who comes from Pretoria.

He overcame a shaky start and t wo untimely weather delays to win for the second time.

Coetzee carded a final round of 67 at Pretoria Country Club, where he has been a member since taking up the game, to finish on 18-under-par 266, two shots ahead of Sam Horsfield.

Mikko Korhonen, who was second in the event 12 months ago, was a shot further back in third after two costly late bogeys ended his chances.

Coetzee began the day with a two-shot lead but bogeyed the third and fourth to find himself two behind Korhonen.

However, a fine display of putting helped Coetzee fire six birdies in 10 holes from the sixth to move into a three-shot lead with three holes left before play was suspended due to lightning. After a second break for bad weather, Coetzee birdied the 18th to win.

FIVE time Major winner Phil Mickelson defeated Justin Thomas in a play-off to win the WGC-Mexico Championship to claim his first victory since the 2013 Open. Mickelson parred the first extra hole to win.
