Gowfers are predictably unpredictable

-

CARNOUSTIE continue to be a nightmare as far as predicting results is concerned.

They can be coupon busters one week but, all too often, follow up with poor results.

They made a poor start to the season, losing their opening match at Bo’ness and this was followed by a 5-0 thumping from Lochee United.

However, in typical style, they bounced back and were undefeated in their next four matches. Defeat at Camelon in the last outing after leading 2-0 was a bitter blow and they will have to start picking up regular wins if they are to add to their current total of 17 points to avoid being dragged into the relegation mire.

Although league form has been inconsistent, the Gowfers’ cup form has been a revelation and they are still involved in all three competitions.

Their displays in the Scottish Cup have been particularly impressive, notably home wins over Petershill and Arthurlie.

Their reward is a plum home tie against tournament favourites Auchinleck and, if they can strike the form they showed in the last two rounds, Alan McSkimming’s side might just spring a surprise.

Jeanfield have work to do if they are to avoid the drop.

They currently sit on 15 points from their 16 games played but Ross Gunnion will be confident he has enough ability in his squad to pull away from the danger zone.

Forfar West End, meanwhile, are staring at a return to the Premier League.

Daryl McKenzie’s men have won only three times in 16 outings, leaving them rooted to the foot of the table and, with only nine league goals to their name, it’s easy to see where their problems lie.
