Man struck by car at roundabout dies
A MAN has died after being struck by a car at a roundabout in Fife.
The incident occurred at around 10.35pm yesterday on the A911 Windygates to Glenrothes road at the Durie Vale roundabout.
The pedestrian suffered significant injuries after the collision with an Audi that was heading towards Glenrothes.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by ambulance staff and officers closed the road in both directions while they conducted their inquiries.
Police said in a statement last night that the road was likely to be closed for several hours and advised motorists to avoid the area and use alternative routes until further notice.
The road remained closed in both directions today as officers continued to deal with the investigation into the man’s death.
Inspector Neil McKenzie said: “Tragically this collision has resulted in the death of the pedestrian and we are currently working to confirm his identity as well as the full circumstances surrounding this incident.
“Anyone who witnessed what happened or who had information they believe is relevant to our i nvestigation should contact police immediately.
“We would also urge the public to be mindful of the road closures and take different routes until we can reopen the road.”
Those with information can contact Fife’s road policing unit via 101 and quote incident number 4122 of March 6.
Councillor Alistair Suttie, who represents Leven, Kennoway and Largo, described the incident as “desperately sad”.
He said: “I had just heard about it from the traffic report when I came back from nightshift.
“I saw the police car was still sitting there blocking the road.
“Obviously it’s desperately sad given the conditions on the roads in the past few days.
“Perhaps that has been a contributing factor although that road was relatively clear.”
Mr Suttie added: “It’s very sad for the people involved.
“I don’t know the circumstances as of yet but at this stage I’d just express my condolences to the family.
“Hopefully we can speak to the police in terms of any extra safety measures that could be introduced there if necessary and whether or not we’ll know the exact circumstances of what happened to him.”
