Double boost for United boss Csaba

AS Dundee United prepare for a non-stop end to the season, manager Csaba Laszlo has been handed a timely double injury boost.

The Tangerines boss has said he’s going to need to use everybody he has at his disposal with postponed games creating a fixture pile-up.

So, he’s delighted to welcome back Grant Gillespie and Emil Lyng to contention for Saturday’s trip to Brechin City.

Those two, added to the return of longer-term injured duo William Edjenguele and Jordie Briels, give Csaba plenty to choose from at Glebe Park.

Gillespie had complained of a tight calf in training this week and would have missed the clash with Queen of the South before that was called off due to a waterlogged pitch at Tannadice.

Lyng, meanwhile, hobbled off injured in the Livingston defeat almost two weeks ago.

Csaba said: “Grant Gillespie wouldn’t have been able to play if we had the game on Tuesday.

“It is not a serious injury, it came from playing on different surfaces because of the weather.

“We played before on the grass, then we trained indoor and on Sunday on the artificial surface and he felt his calf was sore a little bit, a bit tight.

“Nothing serious but he wouldn’t have been fit for Queen of the South.

“Emil Lyng had an injury in the game at Livingston.

“He joined us again in training yesterday.

“Scott Fraser is running which is positive. In three weeks maybe he will be OK.

“William Edjenguele and Jordie Briels are also training and have played games.

“That is positive to get bodies in and gives us more quality.”

Csaba also revealed he’s had discussions with new chairman Mike Martin over his plans for the future at Tannadice as he took over from Stephen Thompson last week.

The United boss said: “He and I have talked about the situation, very often on the phone and also face to face.

“He wanted my opinion and now he knows my opinion.

“This is his first week in the job and I’m sure it is not easy for him to be taking Dundee United over at a time when not everything is OK.

“Mike Martin has given me targets as part of his plan and told me what he wants to do.”

Grant Gillespie, who joined Dundee United from Hamilton in January, picked up a calf injury in training but is expected to be fit on Saturday.
