Coad safety findings in spring

-

PARENTS and pupils at a Dundee primary school have been promised that action is to be taken over road safety issues.

At the end of last year parents, teachers and councillors met to discuss concerns over speeding traffic around Forthill Primary in Broughty Ferry.

They said that concerned residents have made numerous complaints about Forthill Road, with some claiming to have witnessed several near misses between cars and children crossing the street towards the school.

At the time the council’s head of roads and transportation, Neil Gellatly, agreed to have his officers work on proposals to help deal with these problems.

Measures to be considered include yellow lines or traffic lights between Balgillo Road and Forthill Road.

One suggestion was to introduce a long-proposed “safe corridor”, extending from Ferryfields north of the A92 Arbroath Road, down past Forthill Primary, to Grove Academy and Eastern Primary.

However, mum Linsey Mackie told the Tele today that so far nothing had been done.

Mrs Mackie said: “Traffic is still speeding outside the biggest primary school in Dundee.

“We had been hoping that there would be some solution by now.”

A spokesman for Dundee City Council said: “Work is continuing on the review of short and long-term measures.

“We’ll bring forward proposals in the spring.”
