Councillor calls for more info on parking permits
the councillor praised city development convener Lynne Short and depute convener Mark Flynn for being prepared to revisit the issue of residents’ parking.
Previous attempts to implement a parking scheme in the West End had been rejected by constituents.
Proposals made in 2012 saw a massive 86% of residents object to paying £80 for parking.
Mr Macpherson added: “I have tried twice since the original rejection of the proposal to have the issue looked at again as parking issues in the West End continue to get worse.
“I give full credit to the city development convener and depute convener for bringing the matter revisiting the issue.
“It is clear the current report has fallen silent on a number of issues based on the feedback and that was part of the reason for launching an amendment to the proposal.
“I wouldn’t want to i mpose a proposal that would be met with resentment and one permit per household with a number of two-cars families is clearly going to do that.
“We need to make sure we’ve got the majority of people going forward with us on any potential scheme to improve the parking situation in the West End.”
The report will now be considered by councillors on Monday with the added recommendation t hat all wards will “undertake a consultation exercise” with communities in the affected areas.
