Clubs desperate to see match action

- BY JUNICUS

After last week’s total wipeout, hopes are looking a little brighter that sufficient pitches will have recovered to allow some junior action this week.

Lochee United and Carnoustie are particularly keen to get some game time with their big Scottish ties due next week.

Lochee are due to play Broxburn at Thomson Park tomorrow, and manager George Shields will be looking for a reaction following a disappointing performance against Sauchie in their last outing.

With places in the side for the trip to Ayrshire to face Beith a week tomorrow up for grabs, Shields is hoping his players will be up for the challenge.

Apart from Kevin Buchan and Paddy Deane, everyone else is fit.

Carnoustie boss Alan McSkimming is in a similar position, hoping his side get a positive result at Longside in the GA Cup. The Gowfers manager was disappointed and frustrated with their 4-3 defeat at Camelon a fortnight ago and is looking for a morale-boosting performance ahead of their big tie against Auchinleck next week.

Carnoustie have no injury worries and expect to travel with a full-strength pool.

Broughty Athletic play host to Kennoway in the Super League.

Fed manager Jamie McCunnie will have a new man beside him in the dugout after appointing Steve Fallon as his assistant.

The pair are no strangers with both starting their playing careers together at Dundee United.

Fallon has a wealth of experience in the junior game, having been associated with a number of clubs.

With McCunnie still hoping to be involved on the playing side, the new man will have a key role to play on match days.

Both Forfar West End and Jeanfield Swifts’ games are among those in serious jeopardy.

West End are due to host Penicuik but what is a very tough match for Daryl McKenzie’s men looks certain of being postponed again

A statement issued by the Strathmore Park club earlier this week read: “Hospitality is cancelled on Saturday as game is guaranteed to be off.”

Swifts’ trip to Sauchie is expected to meet the same fate.

As a precaution, the Perth men have provisionally arranged a friendly against Thornton on the Kinross all-weather pitch.

They will have a full squad available which includes central defender Mark Duigan, recently returned from a month’s loan at Kinnoull.
